Bridge Timber lifted the inaugral Courier Post Cup with a solid 2-1 win against DUK Brewer at Pavilions. Once again a decent crowd turned up to see both teams start well, and on 18 minutes Karl Thomas found himself in the clear and steered into an empty net to give Timber the lead. DUK Brewer then attacked incessantly for the next fifteen minutes, with shots sprayed over the bar, hitting posts and cleared off the line. Brewer got the deserved equaliser on the half hour mark. Dean Walker found space and struck a great left foot drive home from twenty yards.

This steered Bridge back into gear and they regained the lead five minutes later when Jay O’Brien cleverly beat the offside trap and calmly slotted home to give Bridge TImber a half time lead.

The second half proved a tight and tense affair with fewer real chances. For Timber, O’Brien headed over after Karl Thomas’s flick on header, whilst they remained solid at the back. For Brewer, Dean Walker looked a constant threat, however they couldn’t find the important goal to force extra-time. Referee Carl Crabb blew for full time after six minutes of stoppages, however the game was played in a good spirit, and no cards were shown. Cup sponsor Graham Nash from Courier Post awarded the Man of the Match to a deserving Jay O’Brien, however there were a number of contenders for the award, a testament to the efforts of both sides. For DUK Brewer, the end of a long season, whilst Timber return on Sunday to play Reos in the Bob Orme Challenge Cup Final.
